LCDs with 480 Hz Refresh Rate are coming to the market.

One of the most essential parts of any display is its refresh rate. It is explained as the number of times updating an image is on the screen per second.

A high refresh rate means a realistic picture. While a low refresh rate can lead to a cut or bitter image.

The average LCD refresh rate is 60 Hz. But some advanced models boast of 120 Hz or even 240 Hz.

Now, we’re close to another giant leap in refresh rates. As a new report claims, LCD panels with 480 Hz rate are in development.

According to the Korean website ET News (via The Verge), LG Display and Samsung Display are both working on 480 Hz Refresh Rate LCDs.

The panels are said to be based on LTPS (low-temperature polysilicon) technology, which enables faster response times and higher refresh rates.

The report does not say when we will see these 480 Hz LCDs in the original product, but given that both LG and Samsung are working on them, it is possible See you soon.

If they really hit the market, 480 Hz LCDs would be a significant step up from the current crop of advanced panels.

They will likely find homes in high-end gaming laptops and monitors, where smooth gameplay and fast response time are essential.

It’s hard to say unless we see these panels in action, but in general, the refresh rate for gaming is much better.

More frequent update of an image on the screen means a higher refresh rate, which can lead to a smooth performance on the screen and a more realistic image.

Of course, response time and panel type are other factors to consider as well, for more effective performance.

But if you are looking for the best place for gaming, a higher refresh rate would be better.

So if 480 Hz LCDs hit the market, they would probably be a good choice for gamers looking for potential performance.

Of course, they would also likely be costly, which simply means you have to pay more for having this popular screen.

The rate is made possible with ‘over driving’, where each pixel is refreshed more than once per frame, and ‘double gate drives’, in which each pixel is refreshed twice per frame.

The result is a good image that can handle fast action without blurring.

The companies are currently working on 27- and 31.5-inch models. May 17 to May 22 with plans to show them at SID Display Week 2020 in San Francisco.

There is no word on when we will see these monitors hit the racks, but given that both are LG.

and AU Optronics are working on them, it’s possible that we could see them sooner rather than later.

It is worth noting that OLED displays already offer much higher refresh rates than LCDs. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, for example, has a 120 Hz OLED display. And Sony’s upcoming PlayStation 5 console is rumored to use a 120 Hz OLED panel.

However, OLED panels are still more expensive than LCDs. So it may take some time for us to see 480 Hz OLEDs coming into the mainstream. Meanwhile, a 480 Hz LCD will still be a welcome addition to the market.
